BURSTOW BACKS RESIDENTS FIGHT AGAINST SUTTON SKYSCRAPER

Sutton and Cheam MP, Paul Burstow, is backing local residents in their fight against a developer's plans to build a 19 storey apartment block on the outskirts of the town centre bordering a residential area of Victorian terraces.
The developer, Aitch Limited, plans to build 118 flats in Sutton Court Road with just 13 parking spaces. Mr Burstow has met with local residents in Morland, Reading and Alfred Roads last week to discuss the plans and see for himself how the tower block would change the skyline.
Commenting Paul Burstow MP said: "There is no doubt this development would change the skyline of Sutton, it dwarfs the buildings around it. Rather than gradually stepping down from high rise to low rise this plan attempts to cram as much on the site as possible.
"If these plans go ahead and the tower is built it will literally cast a huge shadow over the neighbouring residential area. It will also cause a wind tunnel effect in Sutton Court Road creating havoc for pedestrians and motorists alike. The developers need to go back to the drawing board, this is the wrong development in the wrong location."
