Burstow right behind staff protest at St Helier12.00.00am GMT Fri 23rd Feb 2007 Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, has expressed his support for a staff protest which is due to take place outside St Helier Hospital on Saturday 3rd March and called on local people to add their names to a petition which demands guarantees about the future of the Hospital The protest, which is being organised by public sector trade union UNISON, will give staff at the Hospital an opportunity to express their opposition to cost-driven job cuts and bed closures. Mr Burstow - who has been leading the SOS: Save Our St Helier campaign against cuts and closures at the Hospital - also spoke of his disappointment that he will be unable to attend the protest. Paul Burstow MP said: "Staff at St Helier are battling difficult circumstances to maintain the highest standards of care for local people - they have my unreserved support." "Frontline staff who are being forced to adapt to new working methods and to re-apply for their own jobs while watching their bosses quit deserve an explanation. This protest gives them an ideal opportunity to demand this." "Anyone who wishes to support staff at the Hospital by demanding answers from the Government, can do so by visiting www.savesthelier.org.uk."
